Quick Crafting Rules

Why?

Quick crafting rules can be used to make consumables with a low cost comparative to character wealth. This is essentially the answer to “how many arrows can I make on guard duty.”

When and Where?

Virtually anywhere that a PC has a few hours to kill. The rules are designed for a six hour period of time. If the PC uses their standard 2 hour guard shift to make items, simply divide the number crafted by 3. Items that require something like a full lab or forge are not appropriate for quick crafting.
Crafting items on guard duty causes a -4 penalty to perception checks.

How?

1 Find the Item’s Cost and DC Information
2 Find the individual Item’s Cost in CPs (multiply by monetary unit then divide by the qty normally sold)
3 Make an appropriate Craft Check
4 Multiply the check result by the DC
5 Divide that product by the Individual CP price (from step 2)
6 round down, that is how many you can make in 6 hours’ free time

Wut?

For example let us take Joe with the Craft Boyer +10 who wants to make some arrows on guard duty
1 Price is 1gp for 20, DC to craft is 12
2 1gp=100cp, 100/20= 5cp ea
3 Joe rolls a 15 +10 for skill bonus= 25
4 Check of 25 multiplied by the DC = 25*12 = 300
5 300/5= 60 arrows.
6 Since Joe is doing this on a 2hr guard duty we devide that by 3.
Joe can make 20 basic arrows on his guard duty.
We can assume that Joe found the 3sp worth materials on the ground or something he killed earlier that day.

Again? Lets try something less ideal but still possible

Joe wants to make flasks of acid out of the Xorn the party just helped him kill.
1 Price is 10gp for 1, the DC is 15
2 10gp=1000cp divided by 1 is still 1000cp
3 Joe rolls a 17 plus a Craft Alchemy bonus of +10 plus a +4 (generous) circumstance benefit from the Xorn corpse =31
4 Check of 31 multiplied by the DC =31*15= 465
5 465/1000= oops looks like Joe cant make a flask of acid in a 6 hour break, looks like the party is not going to wait for him to resolve his fetish. Everyone got some great sleep except Joe and it’s time to get going…sorry Joe.

So lets assume that Joe has the Master Alchemist Feat for the sake of argument.

1 Price is 10gp for 1, the DC is 15
2 Joe now uses the SP cost instead of CP due to the Feat, =100sp
3 Joe rolls a 17 plus a Craft Alchemy bonus of +12 plus a +4 (generous) circumstance benefit from the Xorn corpse =33
4 Check of 33 multiplied by the DC= 33*15 = 495
5 495/100= 4.95
6 Joe can make 4 flasks of acid from the Xorn while the party sleeps, we can safely assume that the Xorn provides the materials needed.
